what causes brown ‘rust’ stains on a white shower tray and how can I remove them?
I’ve tried normal cleaners, even bleach.I have exactly the same problem – the staining comes from the iron which is in the pipes that your water supply is supplied by (informed by the waterboard). That’s the easy bit….
Removing is much harder – I’ve found the best method so far (which is not foolproof but has been pretty effective) is to make a paste of white vinegar, soda crystals and a touch of bleach (no water added) – gently rub into stained areas with a soft cloth and leave for at least half an hour. Then clean very well with a normal proprietary shower cleaner – better use a steamer with a long nozzle if you can.
Is the brown water coming out of my sink safe?
They removed a tree down the block and it looked like they were messing with the water pipes. I only want to run the dishwasher, I’m not drinking it. Is it safe to run the dishwasher? Why is it brown? Rust? I live in an old city, the pipes are at least 80 years old.Brown water could be many different things. Large amounts of iron or manganese, sediment, or just plain old mud. I’m sure it is not harmful, but I would get your water tested. Send your water to a testing center. They test water for free. All you have to do is send it in. Go here:
